Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, made their final public sighting together nearly one year before being found dead in their New Mexico home.
On March 28, 2024, the couple was photographed enjoying a dinner date in Santa Fe.
They ate at Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen at the time, with the legendary actor holding onto his partner’s arm with one hand and a cane with the other.

Arakawa, for her part, sported a patterned top, jeans and brown boots.
The outing marked the pair’s first in 21 years, as they last had been seen together attending the 2003 Golden Globes, where the two-time Oscar winner was presented with the Cecil B. DeMille Award.

On Wednesday, news broke that the duo — and their dog — had died in their Santa Fe residence.
The county’s sheriff, Adan Mendoza, explained to the Santa Fe New Mexican that while no foul play is suspected in their passing, a cause of death has yet to be determined.
He said the investigation into Hackman and Arakawa’s deaths is “active and ongoing.”

Hackman previously wed Faye Maltese, with the former couple welcoming three children during their 30 years of marriage.
Maltese died in April 2017 at age 88.
