The Senate, on Thursday, confirmed Prof. Abdullahi Usman as the Executive Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria.
The confirmation of Usman’s nomination followed the consideration and adoption of the report by the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, chaired by Senator Abubakar Bello.
President Bola Tinubu nominated Usman for the position on August 19, 2024, through a statement by his former Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.
The President later transmitted a formal request for Usman’s confirmation to the Senate.
According to the statement, Usman is a renowned scholar well-grounded in Hajj operations, having previously served as the Chairman of the Kano State Pilgrim’s Board, where he successfully supervised the operations of the largest quota of state pilgrims in the country.
In his report, Senator Bello noted that Usman’s performance during the screening process demonstrated his qualifications and suitability to head NAHCON.
An affirmative voice vote conducted by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, sealed Usman’s confirmation.
