Senator Ireti Kingibe, representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has highlighted a significant disconnect between the elected officials and the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
In an interview on Channels Television, the lawmaker, elected on the platform of the Labour Party (LP), expressed frustration, stating, “I have WhatsApp messages; I have written him one or two letters, and I don’t get any response.”
Regarding the escalating insecurity in the nation’s capital, Senator Ireti pointed out a potential root cause. “I would say without exaggerating that maybe a quarter of the Police Force are guarding VIP, which is not their primary function,” she stated. Attempting to draw attention to the issue, she mentioned, “A little bit earlier, I tried to draw their attention (security operatives), and I was told that it was exaggerated.”
The FCT is currently facing security challenges, with kidnappers targeting victims and taking them to various forests around Abuja, Kaduna, Niger, and other surrounding states.
The lawmaker hinted at the Senate’s plans to summon Minister Nyesom Wike over the situation.
