Serena Deeb believes making connections is a beautiful thing.
Deeb has been with All Elite Wrestling for the past four years, but some of that time has been spent on the injured list. Deeb missed more than a year of ring time between October 2022 and January 2024. She later revealed that her absence was linked to some serious health issues, as she had a series of three unprovoked seizures.
Deeb opened up about her health during a recent interview with WrestleZone, sharing that although she is now cleared and hasn’t had any more seizures, she never found out the cause of the episodes. Despite that, she explained why she chose to go public with her health.
“Unfortunately, there haven’t been a lot of answers. I’ve tried to get answers. Seeing so many doctors and taking all the tests. But the hard thing about seizures and just from talking to other people that have experienced them that is most of the time they can’t figure out the cause. And I think that’s what makes seizures more scary,” Serena Deeb explained. “And so difficult for people because it’s a really scary thing to go through. It’s the scariest thing that I have ever been through and I’ve… Yeah. I’ve never found out the cause.”
Serena Deeb is glad she opened up about her health issues with others
Deeb explained that it was scary for her to open up, but it also allowed her to connect with others about their health and help them.
“This past weekend I was doing a show and I had a woman come up to me. And she said, ‘I just really wanted to thank you when you shared your story that made me feel less alone because I’ve had seizures my whole life.’ And same kind of deal, [she] didn’t know, she tried to figure out as well, doesn’t know what caused them. She told me she’s been seizure-free about five years now, which is incredible. But just talking to people like that. And that’s just one example of so many interactions that I have had since last October when I made that video.
“Those people at those points of their lives have felt really defeated, really scared, almost crippled right? Scared to go… It’s like you’re not in control of your own body and of your own mind. And just talking to those kind of people over the past year has really touched me,” she continued. “And as scary as it was to put out that video — because I almost didn’t put it out. It’s validated right? I’m so happy that I put that video out. Because it’s allowed me to connect with so many people. And I think connection is just… That’s what we are here for. I think it’s a beautiful thing.”
