Hyderabad: After two years on the run, notorious burglar Battula Prabhakar has finally been arrested following a dramatic shootout at Prism Pub in Hyderabad.

Cyberabad Police Commissioner Avinash Mohanty shared details of the operation, explaining that Prabhakar had been a high-profile burglar, mainly targeting engineering colleges due to the large sums of cash collected for admissions, exams, and hostel fees. He had successfully looted multiple colleges across Ranga Reddy and Cyberabad, escaping undetected each time.

Tracking Down the Criminal

A major breakthrough came when police found Prabhakar’s fingerprints at a burglary scene in Moinabad. Investigators began tracing his movements through CCTV footage, though he often wore masks to avoid identification. Eventually, intelligence reports confirmed his presence at Prism Pub, a high-end spot he frequented.

Shootout at Prism Pub

On receiving the tip-off, a police team led by Head Constable Venkataram Reddy was deployed. As soon as Prabhakar exited the pub, he spotted the officers and immediately pulled out a country-made firearm, firing a shot that hit Head Constable Reddy in the thigh.

Despite being wounded, the officers did not back down. They tackled Prabhakar before he could fire again and successfully overpowered him.

A Long-Running Fugitive

Prabhakar, who previously escaped police custody in 2022 while being transported from Anakapalle Court to Vizag Central Jail, had been evading arrest for years. He is wanted in dozens of burglary cases across Hyderabad and Cyberabad.

Current Status

Head Constable Venkataram Reddy is receiving treatment and is in stable condition.Battula Prabhakar is now in police custody, bringing an end to his years-long crime spree.

The police hailed this as a major victory in tackling organized burglary operations in the city.
