Antonio Conte is reportedly looking to lure yet another Manchester United star to Napoli after signing Scott McTominay last summer.

The Scotsman swiftly assimilated himself to life in Southern Italy, becoming a regular starter and a fan favorite amongst the Partenopei. His exploits even prompted Conte to drop his famous three-man backline and switch to a 4-3-3 formation, which suits the player’s characteristics.

So according to The Athletic, the Serie A giants are looking to raid Carrington once more, this time by poaching Harry Maguire on a free transfer.

The 31-year-old has been at Old Trafford since making the £80 million transfer from Leicester City in the summer of 2019, but his time at the club has had its fair share of regrettable blunders, at times earning him the ridicule from fans and observers alike.

Nevertheless, Maguire has been putting on solid displays since Ruben Amorim’s arrival in November. The Portuguese manager heaped praise on the England international, identifying him as the ideal profile to play at heart of the backline.

Therefore, United appear keen on maintaining the player’s services beyond the current campaign. His deal will expire in June, while the club has the option to trigger a one-year automatic renewal. However, the management is working on finding a long-term solution by agreeing a new contract with the player’s entourage.

The player himself confirmed that he and the club are engaged in positive talks: “All the signs are positive at the moment and the chat that I’m having is really positive. I’ve still got this year to go with an option in their hands.”

Nevertheless, Napoli are reportedly trying to sabotage the Red Devils’ plans by offering the Englishman the chance to embark on a new career chapter and try a new football culture.
