Seth Rollins did not plan to wrestle against CM Punk.

A match between the pair was said to be the plan for WrestleMania 40. However, an injury to the Best in the World meant that he would not be fit to compete at the show.

Instead, Rollins is defending his title against Drew McIntyre. Punk has still been in the middle of the duo, and is expected to do battle with them once he is back from injury.

Despite this, Seth Rollins never planned to wrestle against CM Punk in WWE after his return.

Rollins spoke to Sports Illustrated ahead of his match with McIntyre on Sunday. He revealed that the match against Punk was never on his “radar”. He thought Punk would never return to the WWE before his surprise appearance at Survivor Series 2023.

“A match against Punk, that was never on my radar. I believed I would never see that guy again. I thought that until I saw him at Survivor Series.”

The pair wrestled prior to CM Punk walking out of WWE. They faced off in a singles match on Raw in 2013, and were the first and second entrant in the 2014 Royal Rumble.

Seth Rollins Thinks His Match With Cody Rhodes, The Rock and Roman Reigns Is Crazy

Continuing in the interview, Rollins talked about his match on night one of WrestleMania.

On Saturday, the World Heavyweight Champion will fight in the main event. He is teaming with Cody Rhodes to take on The Rock and Roman Reigns. The winner of that bout decides the stipulation to Cody vs Roman on night two, so has huge implications for WrestleMania.

“We are living in one hell of a timeline. It’s crazy to think about all the people in WWE at the same time. The Rock is back, and all that’s happened with him and Cody and Cody’s fans, it is incredible and I’m still making sense of it. Years from now we’ll look back on this; it’s going to create a moment that lasts forever.”
