Seth Rollins has gone through numerous changes throughout his career in WWE, especially when it comes to all the monikers he is known by. This includes his middle name, as many refer to him as Seth “Freakin” Rollins and now Rollins has revealed who came up with that middle name in the first place.

While speaking in an interview with Chris Van Vliet, Seth Rollins was asked who was responsible for his “Freakin” middle name. Rollins stated that Vince McMahon was the one who came up with the “Freakin” middle name for his WWE character. Rollins said that Vince added it years ago, possibly because he thought “Seth Rollins” sounded too plain. The change ended up being good for selling t-shirts, so it stuck.

“I give that credit to the old man. The middle name was his idea back in the day. I don’t remember why. I think he was just bored with Seth Rollins, he was like, ‘Ah, you’ll be Seth Freakin’ Rollins.’ Okay cool, so a lot of t-shirts when we did it, so whatever.”

Later, after Rollins moved on from characters like the “Monday Night Messiah” and the “Drip God”, “Freakin” was brought back as part of his name. Rollins wanted to be known as “The Visionary,” but Vince McMahon didn’t really go for that idea. Instead, “Freakin” became a big part of his identity, and people had to say it every time his name was mentioned, in commentary, in introductions, everywhere.

Rollins thought this was overkill and suggested they tone it down. He felt it would work better if “Freakin” was only used in special moments, like grand introductions or when he said it himself, rather than every single time. He compared it to how Roman Reigns isn’t always called “The Tribal Chief,” showing that sometimes less is more.

“The thing that killed me was when we first brought the ‘Freakin’ back in since it was the Monday Night Messiah for a while, then the Drip God, which was not my idea. I never liked that nickname at all. I tried to push The Visionary on him and he didn’t get that character at all. So he added “Freakin” in there at some point, but then everybody had to say “Freakin” every single time they mentioned my name.

On commentary, anywhere. I was like, at the first given opportunity, “Let’s just pull back on that.” How about I just say it and if someone’s introducing me in a grandiose manner, they can say it, but like if they’re just talking about me, they can just say Seth Rollins. It’s okay, you don’t have to say “The Tribal Chief” Roman Reigns all the time.”

Seth “Freakin” Rollins has made the nickname a big part of his legacy, even though it wasn’t his first choice. It shows Vince McMahon’s creative ideas and Rollins’ ability to adjust to anything in WWE and it’ll stick with him for a long time. Regardless, fans are waiting to see what’s next for Rollins following his loss to CM Punk during WWE RAW’s big Netflix debut on January 6th.

What do you think of Seth Rollins’ “Freakin” nickname? Should it be used sparingly, or does it add to his larger-than-life persona? Let us know in the comments!
