As Los Angeles is coming to grips with the unprecedented destruction from this week’s wildfires, Apple TV+ and the Severance producing team have decided to cancel the Jan. 13 red carpet premiere for the upcoming second season of the acclaimed drama series, which was to be held in L.A.
“As devastating wildfires continue to impact the Los Angeles area, and with safety as our first and foremost priority, we have made the decision to cancel Monday’s Severance season two premiere event,” Apple TV+ said in a statement. “Apple is donating to support the relief efforts on the ground and our thoughts and heartfelt support remain with everyone who has been affected by these tragic fires. Thank you for your understanding.”
Apple CEO Tim Cook yesterday announced that the California-based company “will be donating to support the victims and recovery efforts on the ground.”
The Severance Season 2 premiere was set to take place at the TCL Chinese Theater, which is on Hollywood Blvd., a street that was on the border of a mandatory evacuation zone for the Sunset fire overnight. This is the latest Hollywood event to be canceled in the wake of the disaster that has decimated multiple neighborhoods, with Pacific Palisades and Altadena the hardest hit.
From writer, creator/executive producer Dan Erickson and director/executive producer Ben Stiller, Severance follows Mark Scout (Adam Scott), a team leader at Lumon Industries whose employees have undergone a severance procedure that surgically divides their memories between their work and personal lives. This daring experiment in “work-life balance” is called into question as Mark finds himself at the center of an unraveling mystery that will force him to confront the true nature of his work… and of himself.
In the 10-episode Season 2, Mark and his friends learn the dire consequences of trifling with the severance barrier, leading them further down a path of woe.
Britt Lower, Tramell Tillman, Zach Cherry, Jen Tullock, Michael Chernus, Dichen Lachman, John Turturro, Christopher Walken, Patricia Arquette and new series regular Sarah Bock also star.
In addition to executive producing, Ben Stiller directs 5 episodes in season 2 in addition to directors Uta Bresiewitz, Sam Donovan and Jessica Lee Gagné. Season 2 is also executive produced by John Lesher, Jackie Cohn, Mark Friedman, Beau Willimon, Jordan Tappis, Sam Donovan, Caroline Baron, Richard Schwartz, Nicholas Weinstock as well as Adam Scott and Patricia Arquette. Fifth Season is the studio.
Severance‘s second season, which has been receiving strong reviews, premieres with its first episode Jan. 17, 2025 followed by one episode every Friday through March 21.
The devastation caused by the fires in Los Angeles is heartbreaking. Thank you to the incredible firefighters, first responders, and all those assisting for your heroic efforts. Apple will be donating to support the victims and recovery efforts on the ground. https://t.co/9ry0olSQFh
