Shah Rukh Khan sends the internet into meltdown everytime he strikes his iconic open-arm pose. While fans have admired that for over the years, the actor has finally shared the story behind it. During a live interaction at the 77th Locarno Film Festival night, he shared how he couldn’t get a dance step right and Saroj Khan suggested him to strike the pose.
During the interaction, a fan asked the actor to tell the back story of his iconic open-arm pose. After taking a while to recall the exact situation, King Khan said, “I think what happend is in Indian cinema, especially during the 90s, dip was a real thing.” He then added, “I couldn’t do dip. Because of this, I was quite ashamed of myself. All night, I kept practicing it in my room. The next morning, I remember saying to my choreographer Saroj Khan, ‘Ma’am, ready?’ She said, ‘Yes, but as you cannot do dips, you just stand there and put your arms out. I did dips for her and she was like, ‘No, no, don’t do it. It doesn’t look nice on you.’ So, she didn’t let me do the dip and I had to put my arms out.”

Because, I was using the pose so much, I had to do it more intensely and eventually, I made it scientific. I am only fooling you all. There is nothing, it is just arms out”.
Shah Rukh reveals why he prefers working with women
During the interview, the actor also spoke about collaborating with women and shared why he prefers working with them. He says, “I do find that having worked a lot with women, as actors, directors and producers, I do find them more sensitive and nuanced. Men compartmentalise their feelings. Women are more overarching. They also, to be honest, make the films look nicer. I don’t want it to sound inappropriate, they do smell better. They have shampooed, they laugh more and Farah Khan especially, she used to feed us very well, and she has got a great sense of humour.”
On the work front, SRK will next be seen in Sujoy Ghosh’s King, which will see him share screen space with his daughter Suhana Khan.
