Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, criticized Governor Godwin Obaseki for failing to acknowledge his reinstatement to office by the court, claiming that he was instrumental in making Obaseki Governor.

During an appearance on Channels Television’s political program, ”Politics Today”, on Friday, Shaibu stated that it took former Governor Adams Oshiomhole three months to convince him to support Obaseki’s candidacy.

“Obaseki was not a politician, and he was not financially equipped to run for governor. Oshiomhole introduced him, and some of us initially argued against it. But out of respect for Oshiomhole, we eventually agreed to support Obaseki,” Shaibu explained. “It wasn’t Obaseki who made me; I made him. We used our resources, mobilized our friends, and leveraged our political capital to make him governor.”

The ongoing conflict between Shaibu and Obaseki stems from issues related to the upcoming governorship election in Edo State. Shaibu, who was selected as Obaseki’s Deputy to strengthen the party’s ticket, claimed that Obaseki has been trying to prevent him from running in the 2024 governorship election by withholding financial support. Shaibu also revealed that he has not received any government cheques for the past year.
