Shawn Mendes paid tribute to Liam Payne in a touching way during a recent performance. On Friday (October 18), the 26-year-old “Wonder” singer spoke about the One Direction member’s tragic passing earlier this week during a concert. He then sang a song in his honor. The dedication comes years after Liam revealed that he reached out to Shawn to offer him some support and advice. I got to meet him a couple times, and he was a beautiful soul and his eyes gleamed — it was beauty, shining into his eyes.” He continued, saying, “It’s about grieving those we miss with tears and it’s also about celebrating them and who they were and what they left in this world and I just want to take a second to send so much love to him, wherever he is up there. Liam, we love you.” Shawn proceeded to sing his song “Heart of Gold” in Liam‘s honor. If you were unaware, Shawn is close with members of One Direction. Earlier this year, he made a surprise appearance at one of Niall Horan‘s concerts. Back in 2018, Liam revealed that he had reached out to Shawn to offer some advice about managing fame. “With the way this lifestyle is, we don’t help each other and there’s just not much point to it,” he said during an interview. “I went and saw Shawn Mendes recently when I was at an awards show.
