Former Kano State Governor, Ibrahim Shekarau, has said the appointment of heads of security agencies from the South West by President Bola Tinubu does not bother the League of Northern Democrats, provided the appointees are capable.

Shekarau, who made the remark in a telephone interview with PUNCH Online on Sunday, said whoever President Tinubu appointed if he/she can deliver, would be welcomed.

The former education minister who is the interim chairman of the newly formed LN,D maintained that the group has no reason to complain about the appointments, as long as the appointees are competent to do the job.

“It should be a challenge to the north but it does not bother us as long as they (the appointees) are capable.

“If all his appointees are from Lagos, we will not bother. Our concern is about the development of the North. Whoever is appointed is he/she competent to do the job?” he asked.

He recalled that former President Muhammadu Buhari did the same thing when he appointed all the service chiefs from the Northern part of the country.

“In the past, Buhari did it when his Chief of Army Staff, Director General DSS, Chief of Air Staff, DG NIA, IGP were all appointed from the North,” he said.

He said contrary to insinuations, the LND’s major concern and priority is the development of the North in all ramifications to enable it to become a leading force in Nigeria’s political landscape.

Shekarau said if governors in the north were up and doing, the region would not be in its present state of social and economic crises.

“We are not a pressure group, our concern is about the north. So, if our governors are up and doing, the region will not be in its present situation,” he added.
