Shelly Martinez is no stranger to drama in professional wrestling, and many fans are aware of the issues she had with Batista during her time in WWE. This led to rumors about her and Batista hooking up and now the ex-WWE star has decided to set the record straight on such rumors.
While speaking to Ring the Belle, Shelly Martinez was asked about her issues with Batista. Martinez noted that she went to the red carpet premiere of the movie Immortals, where Batista was there, but not in the movie. After the event, she approached him to share some positive thoughts and they took a picture together and she kept it as a reminder of her healing.
“I got invited to the red carpet premiere of the movie Immortals. He wasn’t in the movie, but he was there, and I was like, ‘Okay.’ At this point, I had really healed even more, whatever, whatever. So after the movie was over, I caught up with him. That was a trip because the movie is all about Good and Evil, and at that point, Batista meant something to me in that context—it was a lot, dude. But I went up to him and I was just like, ‘Hey, you know, Positive Vibes. You probably think I’m crazy, but…’ and I told him this whole thing. He was like, ‘Oh, well, you don’t know my mom,’ meaning, like, ‘Oh, you know, I’m used to spiritual talk and whatever.’ And I was like, ‘I think it’d be really cool if we get a picture together.’ So we took a picture, and I kept it for myself, just to kind of be a sign that it’s fine.”
Martinez said she doesn’t hold onto bitterness and reflected on her time in wrestling, where she got to play unique characters like a vampire and pirate. She also made it clear that the rumors about her and Batista hooking up are not true, stating that he is not her type and that they never got physical or even kissed.
“Like I said earlier, I can’t be bitter. I got to be the effing vampire and a pirate for a day in a freakin’ show, so come on. There are people that are mad at Batista about it, and it’s like, ‘Why are you mad at him? I’m not mad at him.’ And then there are people who say, ‘Oh, she banged him and she’s just mad.’ I never banged Batista. I never, ever kissed him. He’s not my type, no offense.”
In 2017, Shelly Martinez made a statement claiming that a backstage altercation with Batista was the reason for her release from WWE. At the time, she was performing on the ECW brand under the name Ariel and she was ultimately released from WWE in 2007.
“The time has definitely come and one of the signs that I know that wrestling is done for me is a couple. I’ve been having a real hard time these last couple of months and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ has been promoted and now is out. For those of you that know that me and Dave Bautista got in a fight backstage, that’s how I got fired – so it’s been interesting for me to drive around town and I see Dave Bautista’s face everywhere.”
“There’s a lot of healing that I did through all of that but I was finding myself getting depressed. I would wonder why am I depressed and I would backtrack my day and a lot of times it was triggered by Bautista.”
Regardless, it is certainly good to know that Shelly Martinez and Batista squashed their beef long ago and that they never hooked up in the first place, despite what rumors suggested. Both have moved on with their lives and that is ultimately what fans feel is for the best.
