Shelton Benjamin lays out the goals for his ongoing run.

Upon his release from WWE in September 2023, Shelton Benjamin once again entered the free agency market. Naturally, this paved a path for Benjamin to also return to the independent wrestling circuit, where he’s since boasted notable matches against the likes of Tommy Knight, Barabas, and NJPW’s Tom Lawlor.

As he continues forward in his post-WWE career, Benjamin was recently asked about his current goals. In response, Benjamin, now 48 years old, indicated that he is focused on propelling himself even further while also giving back to the up-and-coming stars around him.

“I still have my own selfish reasons [for performing],” Benjamin told Daily Star. “Still want to go out there and perform, I still want to have fun. I still want to win championships. Still want to do a whole lot of things, but I also understand that at this point in my career, not that I’m about to hang up anytime soon, but I feel like it’s important for me to try to help build new talent new, younger talent. There are a few ways to do that, but that is definitely one of my responsibilities.”

Benjamin’s latest in-ring appearance took place at Prestige Wrestling’s Alive Or Just Breathing event on May 16. There, “The Gold Standard” took on NJPW’s Tom Lawlor. Benjamin was initially slated to face TNA’s Josh Alexander at the event, but due to ongoing health issues, Alexander opted to pull out of this and all of his remaining dates for the month of May.
