In a bid to improve the welfare and means of livelihoods of residents across the 13 local government areas in Nasarawa State, Vice President Kashim Shettima will, on Saturday, October 12, unveil the Nasarawa State Human Capital Development Strategy Document in Lafia, the state capital.

The Vice President is also billed to launch the state’s Gender Transformative Human Capital Development Policy Framework, which seeks equity for both the male and female genders in the state. The Director General of the Nasarawa State Human Capital Development Agency, Habiba Balarabe-Suleiman, made the disclosure to journalists in Lafia on Thursday shortly after the final draft presentation and validation of the both documents by stakeholders in the state.

At the meeting, Balarabe-Suleiman emphasised the need for all stakeholders to key into the HCD agency’s agenda so as to accelerate development in the state as well as ensure that all citizens achieve their full potentials.

She mentioned the six thematic areas of the state’s HCD Agency to include Health and Nutrition; Education; Labour Force Participation; Youth; Social Development; and Local Government and Community Development.

She said, “The Nasarawa State Human Capital Development Strategy Document and the State’s Gender Transformative Human Capital Development Policy Framework documents will be launched on the 12th of October 2024 by the Vice President of Nigeria, His Excellency, Kashim Shettima, who is also the National Chairman of the Human Capital Development Agenda.

“The strategy document is a document that creates a platform for collaboration and partnerships within Ministries, Departments and Agencies, and partners within and outside the state.

“We are hoping to create a platform where we would have a proper plan outlined, where we are no longer going to be using funds for interventions without data backed start to end plans.

“We want a situation where we would have plans that are effective and adequate that would intentionally address challenges and achieving expected outcomes. Then, hopefully, we will begin to have accelerated growth and development through sustainable interventions.”

She added that the gender transformative document seeks equity for both girls and boys, men and women in the state, while emphasising that it was about equity and not equality.

“The gender document seeks to create a society where every individual is met at their point of need, and collectively, both genders participate in promoting and increasing the socio-economic position of Nasarawa State,” the DG said.

On her part, the Nasarawa State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Aisha Ibrahim, who spoke on behalf of the others, while commending the state’s HCD Agency for its positive efforts thus far, expressed satisfaction with both documents, affirming that they would create equal opportunities for all residents of the state.

“These are documents that seek to invest in people through the six thematic areas of the HCD Agency. The documents seek to end poverty, creating equal opportunities for everyone and an inclusive society in Nasarawa State for both the males and females to strive. So, I am very much satisfied with the documents,” she said.
