Shingo Takagi regained the gold at NJPW Destruction in Kobe.
At NJPW Destruction in Kobe, Shingo Takagi challenged HENARE for the NEVER Openweight Championship. They battled it out, and Takagi ultimately emerged victorious by hitting the Last of the Dragon.
Later in the show, Takagi expressed his interest in challenging for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. TMDK member Ryohei Oiwa then challenged him to a title match, which was confirmed for NJPW King of Pro Wrestling.
By beating HENARE, Takagi captured the title for the fifth time. He is now tied for second on the all-time list behind Tomohiro Ishii (six reigns). HENARE previously won the gold by beating Takagi at the New Japan Soul event on June 16.
