Hiroshi Tanahashi is wrapping up his legendary wrestling career and many people would like to see him do something with Shinsuke Nakamura.

WWE United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura spoke with Tokyo Sports about Hiroshi Tanahashi’s career and the fact that he’s retiring at the young age of 48.

“In today’s world of professional wrestling, retiring at 48 years old may be a little early,” Shinsuke Nakamura said. “But we cannot measure the damage Tanahashi has endured, and he must also have responsibilities as president.”

When asked about the possibility of doing something with Tanahashi this year before he retires, Nakamura downplayed the possibility due to the lack of relationship between WWE and New Japan.

“I don’t know, I don’t know,” Shinsuke Nakamura said. “They say ‘never say never’. I hear people saying that, but when you think about the reality of it… You can say whatever you want about emotions, but you have to clear the reality. There are probably some things I shouldn’t say, and I can’t promise anything. I can’t take responsibility for that.”

While WWE has allowed Nakamura to work for Pro Wrestling NOAH in recent years, the possibility of him working an event for New Japan is unlikely due to their relationship with AEW.

Newly crowned IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Hirooki Goto has announced he will face Tanahashi for the title in the future.
