Fresh off of Shogun‘s phenomenal sweep at the Emmys, Co-Creator Justin Marks has signed a new overall deal with FX Productions.
Under the agreement, Marks will develop new content for FX as well as a potential two additional seasons of Shogun with co-creator Rachel Kondo.
“It is an honor to have Justin as part of the FX family,” said FX Entertainment President Gina Balia in a statement. “He is a gifted storyteller who is tireless in his commitment to doing the best possible work. His dedication is in every frame of Shogun and we are delighted to be continuing our relationship with him as we forge new stories to share with the world.”
“It has been one of the greatest privileges of my life to spend the last five years at FX,” added Marks in a statement. “From the production team to the brilliant marketing and publicity apparatus, I feel like FX has become our extended family. I can think of nothing better than to continue collaborating with John, Gina, Nick, Kate, Lindsay and the rest of the team at FX, not to mention the entire Disney Television team led by Dana, Eric and so many other brilliant partners. It’s a rare thing to find partners who challenge you as much as they support you. I can’t wait to see where this road takes us next.”
Shogun won 18 Emmy Awards at this year’s ceremony, setting the record for the most wins by a series in a single season. Lead actors Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai were also honored, with Sanada becoming the first Japanese actor to win Lead Actor in a Drama Series, and Sawai making history as the first actress of Asian descent to win Lead Actress in the same category. All 10 episodes are available to stream on Hulu in the U.S. and Disney+ in all other territories.
Marks was most recently a writer on Top Gun: Maverick for producers Jerry Bruckheimer, Tom Cruise, and Paramount. The film has earned nearly $1.5 billion worldwide. He also wrote the Walt Disney Company’s The Jungle Book, which earned nearly $1 billion in worldwide box office.
Marks also served as showrunner of Shogun, which is based on the novel by James Clavell. Previously, Marks created the Starz drama Counterpart that starred JK Simmons.
