Shōgun's Anna Sawai Stops by 'GMA' After First Emmy Nomination!

Anna Sawai greets fans on Thursday morning (July 18) in New York City as she stops by Good Morning America!

The 32-year-old actress has a lot to smile about! She was just nominated at the 2024 Emmy Awards! Anna was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series for her role as Toda Mariko in the hit FX original series, Shōgun.

Anna wore a white dress and a pair of red heels as she spoke with fans before heading to the GMA studios. On her way out, she was spotted greeting a dog before entering her car!

Last month, Anna spoke with Tom Hiddleston as part of Variety‘s Actors on Actors series.

She got emotional discussing the response she’s received regarding representation of her character in the hit FX series.

“Multiple young girls came up to me being like, ‘This is the first time I’m seeing a real Japanese character that I can really relate to,” Anna said. “They were getting emotional as well, because it was something that they had internalized—not being able to speak, having to behave—and they thought that’s the way that they should be. I feel like if I had seen characters like Mariko on-screen growing up, that would’ve formed me in a different way. I wouldn’t have internalized all those expectations.”
