EXCLUSIVE: Shtisel, yes Studios’ smash Israeli drama starring Shira Haas and Michael Aloni, is heading to Arte.

The European network has taken all three seasons of the drama in a non-exclusive deal for its arte.tv VoD player, several months after picking up Israeli roommate comedy Bloody Murray. Shtisel was previously available on Netflix in the territory.

Shtisel, which launched more than a decade ago and stars Aloni (The Beauty Queen of Jerusalem, 8200), Haas (Unorthodox, Night Therapy), Dovale Glickman (Oslo, Laces) and Neta Riskin (Ghosts of Beirut, The Spy), follows the daily lives and loves of the extended Shtisel clan, an argumentative, ultra-Orthodox family living in modern-day Jerusalem.

Created and written by Ori Elon and Yehonatan Indursky, the series became a global phenomenon when it first aired on Netflix, offering unique insights into Haredi society in a no-holds-barred manner that addresses numerous universal themes.

The show has sold across the globe. It recently changed hands in the U.S., moving from Netflix to Prime Video following a deal struck by yes Studios, which also brokered the Arte deal.

Yes Studios MD Sharon Levi said: “With its endearing characters and fascinating look into everyday life in an ultra-orthodox community, Shtisel continues to prove a hit wherever it is shown. It tends to quickly develop a strong local fanbase, with most viewers keen to binge-watch this addictive TV series. We are confident that this experience will be repeated with this latest deal and look forward to seeing how well it performs on arte.tv.”

Shtisel is produced by yes TV and Abot Hameiri Barkai for yes TV. The series won 17 Israeli Academy Awards, including Best Drama Series, Best Script, Best Actor (twice) and Best Actress. It is highly unlikely it will return for a fourth season.
