Injuries have left Barcelona stranded in midfield. After all, Pedri Gonzalez and Frenkie de Jong’s absences force Xavi to deploy the only remaining attacking midfielder, Ilkay Gundogan, in a deeper and unfavourable role.

Xavi’s side could undoubtedly do with more firepower in the attacking midfield, especially in terms of players who can directly contribute in the face of goal.

A glance towards their arch-rivals, Real Madrid, emphasises the importance of the same. After all, the likes of Jude Bellingham, Eduardo Camavinga and Brahim Diaz have directly helped the team in a season where they have just three forwards.

Nolito’s advice

Speaking to AS in a recent interview, former Barcelona and Manchester City star Nolito commented on the Catalan institution’s upcoming summer transfer window and gave rather unexpected advice to Joan Laporta around Real Madrid’s Brahim Diaz.

“I would sign him tomorrow, spend the money it would require honestly. I think he’s a wonderful player.”

“What happens is that of course, he is already in Madrid. But if I were Joan Laporta, I would approach him with a briefcase of money to lure him,” he added on the Merengues’ star.

The Moroccan star is currently not a regular starter under Carlo Ancelotti given Jude Bellingham’s surprise form. A move to Barcelona, however, is not possible for obvious reasons.

Interestingly, the Catalans were interested in signing the player for La Masia when he was still a child but he eventually ended up moving to England to develop at Manchester City.

Sublime form

Diaz may not be a regular starter for Real Madrid, but he has featured as a regular presence off the bench and has started in the absence of Bellingham.

All in all, he has secured 25 appearances including 13 starts for the team in La Liga alone, scoring five goals and providing three assists in the process.

He also has two goals and an assist for the Galacticos in the UEFA Champions League and is one of the team’s protagonists in attack.

His profile would offer Barcelona firepower in a department that they seemingly lack resources in. Nevertheless, his arrival is impossible due to several reasons.

Not only do Barça and Madrid not engage in cross-transfers, but also the former Man City winger plays in the same position as Raphinha and Lamine Yamal.
