Singer Sia quietly became a mother for the third time, welcoming her baby, Somersault Wonder Bernad, with her estranged husband Dan Bernad on March 27, 2024. This marks Sia’s first child with Dan, following their marriage in May 2023, which was celebrated in a low-key ceremony in Italy with only six guests present.

Sia Welcomes 3rd Child Ahead Of Divorce With Dan Bernad

However, the couple’s relationship took a turn, as Sia filed for divorce from Dan on March 18, 2025, less than two years after their wedding, citing irreconcilable differences. In the divorce documents, she requested legal and physical custody of Somersault but indicated she was amenable to visitation rights for Bernad. Additionally, she has opted not to seek spousal support.

About Sia-Dan Relationship

Sia and Dan had largely kept their relationship private, and details regarding both the birth of their child and the divorce have come to light primarily through legal filings. Before the arrival of Somersault, Sia had adopted two teenage boys in 2019, both of whom were 18 at the time and nearing ageing out of the foster care system. In an interview with InStyle in 2020, she expressed her lifelong desire to become a mother, explaining that she had struggled with infertility and had undergone in vitro fertilization treatments during her previous marriage to filmmaker Erik Anders Lang.

Sia’s Adoption Journey

In her quest to become a parent, Sia was inspired to adopt after viewing the 2016 HBO documentary Foster. One of the young boys featured in the film caught her attention, prompting her to adopt him. When he inquired if his friend from the group home could join them, she agreed, leading to the unexpected addition of another child, despite initially believing they were related.

Looking ahead, Sia has expressed interest in fostering infants in the future. In a past interview with Vogue Australia, she revealed her plans to care for babies, particularly those whose mothers are battling addiction, until they can recover or find suitable adoptive homes.
