Following his totally uncontrolled gesture on the face of the PSG goalkeeper, Wilfried Singo received numerous racist insults on social networks.
Wilfried Singo will probably remember his evening of December 19, 2024 for a long time. Mainly for the wrong reasons. Already because his club AS Monaco certainly let the title of champion of France slip away
by losing (2-4) against Paris Saint-Germainin the advanced match of the sixteenth day of Ligue 1.
But above all, the Ivorian defender found himself at the heart of a vast refereeing controversy after planting his crampons in the face of Gianluigi Donnarumma. And quickly, some ill-intentioned Internet users rushed to social networks to make racist remarks.
Singo treated as a monkey, AS Monaco reacts
“AS Monaco condemns in the strongest terms the unacceptable racist remarks of which Wilfried Singo was the target on social networks after last night’s match against Paris Saint-Germain. These behaviors have no place in sport, either on or off the field, and are in total contradiction with the values that the Club defends. The club gives its full support to Wilfried,” can we read in a press release published by the Principality club this Thursday.
The former Torino player apologized to the goalkeeper of the capital club. He will not be able to make the trip to the Racing Club de Lens pitch on Sunday for the 32nd finals of the Coupe de France. He could make his return to competition on January 5 during the Champions Trophy, against… Monaco.
