“I was playing Falstaff, [a] wonderful part in Shakespeare. And I lost my footing, I got my foot caught in something that was on the stage. I couldn’t shake it off and then trying to shake it off, I slid, on the polished surface of the stage [and] the front row of the audience,” Ian shared in an interview with GLAAD.

“And I fractured a wrist and my neck. And I shouted loudly, ‘Help me, help me! I’m sorry,’ I shouted. And then I said, ‘I don’t do this.’ These are words that came out. ‘Don’t move your head Ian,’ they said as I lay back,” he continued. “I met yesterday the woman who was holding my head. And [she said] you also shouted, ‘I’m dying.’ So what I’m left with now, particularly as I know the truth of that particular situation is I’m emotionally still in a bit of a state, and I feel I thought it was the end of something. It was the end of my performance as Falstaff, but I felt guilty. I felt ashamed. I’d done something that was avoidable. I don’t know. It was an accident. But I’m fine.”

If you missed it, Ian revealed what really saved him more injuries during the fall.
