Ratcliffe reached an agreement with the Glazer family on Christmas Eve that now sees him own a 25% stake in the club – 13 months on from when the American owners began exploring a complete or partial sale of the football club.

The Ineos Group will take control of football operations at United as a result.

They have already appointed Omar Berrada as the club’s Chief Executive Officer following the eagerly awaited departure of Richard Arnold. Now, Newcastle sporting director Dan Ashworth is expected to follow in his footsteps by leaving a Premier League rival for the Reds.

With the FA’s approval, Ratcliffe is expected to release a formal statement in the comment days.
