Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg has dropped a blockbuster transfer update tonight, confirming Manchester United’s interest in one of the most sought-after stars in Europe.

According to the transfer journalist, the Red Devils have joined a host of clubs to have established their interest in Bayern Munich starlet Mathys Tel, with United now ‘considering entering’ the race in the event Alejandro Garnacho or Marcus Rashford leave.

Both players have been heavily linked with moves away since the beginning of the window, though only the Argentine has been the subject of a formal approach after Napoli saw their £40 million bid rebuffed.

As for Rashford, he has garnered several admirers since his exile from the first-team at Old Trafford – last Sunday’s win over Fulham marked the 11th successive game he’s been left out of Ruben Amorim’s squad. However, his costly £325,000-a-week wages are proving to be quite the stumbling block, even for a loan move.

United emerge as surprise suitors for wantaway Tel

Only earlier today was it revealed by Fabrizio Romano that Tel has ‘decided to leave’ the Bundesliga giants before next Monday’s deadline, with Chelsea a concrete name in the list of his admirers.

The Blues are planning to ‘resume talks’ with Bayern in hopes of hashing out a deal for the record-breaking’ teenager, who became the club’s youngest-ever goalscorer when he opened his account at just 17 years and 126 days old. Shortly after, he made his full league debut, during which he notched his maiden Bundesliga goal.

Bayern’s Hasan Salihamidžić said of Tel in the aftermatch of his meteoric breakthrough: “He feels very comfortable in the middle, as a centre forward or a false nine. If Mathys comes from the left, he can get into goalscoring positions a bit better. He has everything a really good offensive player needs.”

He added that the Frenchman is ‘very ambitious, greedy, hard-working and has a top mentality,’ which is demonstrated in the fact he ‘works on his days off’.
