The Sky Sports column ‘Jones Knows’ has given some interesting analysis and commentary on what is currently the position at Newcastle United.
The column makes predictions on what will happen at certain Premier League matches and also debates other matters / issues at clubs as well.
However, unlike the usual ex-pro predictions, that are usually simply based on how ‘big’ a club is and whether or not they won the previous game, this one has proper analysis and insight, not lazy assumptions.
The Sky Sports ‘Jones Knows’ column looks at the matches from a betting perspective and has been concentrating on this Newcastle United game at St James’ Park against Sheffield United.
Lewis Jones (who is the Sky Sports expert behind the ‘Jones Knows’ column) has highlighted some major underlying factors that could / should have a big bearing on this Newcastle United v Sheffield United game.
“Backing Sheffield United goals might just be a profitable trend to follow in the next few weeks.
“There has been more intensity and threat to their play under Chris Wilder, who is playing with the handbrake off a little more. If you’re going to concede anyway, you might as well at least fight fire with fire.
“They’ve scored at least once in six of their last seven matches, scoring 11 goals in total.
“I’ve got no faith in Sheffield United in the outright market where Newcastle are rightly 2/9 for the home win with Sky Bet but Wilder’s men can certainly make this a goal-heavy game.
“Newcastle remain vulnerable defensively and have conceded two or more goals in 14 of their last 25 fixtures across all competitions, while Sheffield United have scored two or more in 10 of their last 18 games across all competitions, including scoring twice against Manchester United, Chelsea, Fulham and Bournemouth of late. They are 3/1 with Sky Bet to score two or more goals again – and that looks a tasty price.
“Score Prediction: Newcastle United 4 Sheffield United 2”
A lot of good stuff in there, as usual, when it comes to what the Sky Sports expert says.
In the last 14 Premier League games for Sheffield United, the games have produced six goals on three occasions, five goals in four of the matches, four goals in another five of the games. Only two of the last 14 having produced less than four goals, those having been a 1-0 defeat at Wolves and a 2-0 lost at Brentford.
Sheffield United conceding a massive 43 goals in these last 14 games, averaging more than three per game, whist scoring 18 at the other end. The Blades winning just one of their 18 PL games and just three all season, so far, Newcastle United need to guard against any complacency to avoid making it four PL wins for the visitors.
Sheffield United have only kept one clean sheet in 34 Premier League matches and I can’t see that changing today.
Eddie Howe will be looking to get on top from the first whistle and go for goals as early as possible, I’m looking forward to this one.
