Bayern Munich have been locked in negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen trying to hash out a deal for Jonathan Tah since the window opened.

However, the two clubs are yet to reach an agreement that would see the German international make the move from the BayArena to the Allianz ready for the 2024/2025 campaign.

It’s no wonder why Bayern are looking to poach Tah, either, given that his stellar, formidable performances under Xabi Alonso last term were integral to Leverkusen’s invincible Bundesliga-winning season – as well as their DFB Pokal triumph.

Meanwhile, European giants Bayern were knocked off their pedestal when they saw out their first trophyless term since 2012. It led to wholesale changes across the club, with Thomas Tuchel, whose exit was already confirmed in February, being replaced by the lesser-experienced Vincent Kompany, who parted ways with Burnley following their relegation to the Championship.

Red Devils establish interest in Bayern’s priority target

As per Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg, Manchester United have now enquired about Tah’s availability in the ‘last few days’, having taken note of the fact that talks have stalled between the two German clubs.

Should they accelerate their interest and make moves to strike up a deal, it may have significant ramifications on their pursuit of Matthijs de Ligt. Bayern are presumably open to selling the Dutchman as they anticipate another centre-half arrival before the September deadline.

With their sights set firmly on Tah, United’s mooted hijack could well make the Bayern board reluctant to do business or part ways with De Ligt.
