‘SNL’ Promo: Lady Gaga Draws Cast Into Her Rather Humiliating Musical Process

Only Lady Gaga could belt a lyric like “She has bedbugs!” with such drama and conviction.

In this week’s promo for Saturday Night Live, a bespectacled, dressed down Gaga – who will be both host and musical guest on Saturday – sits at a piano in the SNL offices, performing musical improvisations that comment on various cast members passing through. It’s her “process.”

First comes Andrew Dismukes, whose mid-afternoon order of a breakfast sandwich gets a lyric. Then Devon Walker, who is “taking a big swing” with a new cowboy-style hat.

But the payoff comes when a sleepy-eyed, pajama-wearing Heidi Gardner emerges from her dressing room and finally reveals why she’s been spending nights there. Gaga gets the crescendo she’s been waiting for.

The March 8 episode marks Gaga’s second time pulling double duty as host and musical guest. She has previously hosted once before, and been musical guest four times. This weekend’s appearance falls a day after the release of her new album Mayhem.

Saturday Night Live airs Saturday at 11:30pm ET/8:30pm PT on NBC and streams live on Peacock. It is produced in association with Broadway Video. The creator and executive producer is Lorne Michaels.
