‘SNL’s Molly Kearney Joins CBS Comedy Pilot ‘DMV’, Trent O’Donnell To Direct

EXCLUSIVE: Coming off a two-season run on NBC’s Saturday Night Live, Molly Kearney has been tapped to star in CBS’ single-camera comedy pilot DMV, from Dana Klein, Kapital Entertainment, TrillTV and CBS Studios. As they make the transition from late-night to primetime with DMV, Kearney is joining another SNL alum, Tim Meadows, who had been previously cast in the pilot alongside Colin From Accounts co-creator and star Harriet Dyer.

Prolific comedy director Trent O’Donnell (Ghosts) is set to direct and executive produce the DMV pilot, written by Klein based on author Katherine Heiny’s short story.

DMV is a workplace comedy set at the place everyone dreads going most: the DMV. Our quirky and lovable characters are making minimum wage, doing a thankless job where customers are annoyed before they even walk in the door. Good thing they have each other.

Kearney will play Barbara, the boss of this branch who considers herself one of the gang, even though “the gang” does not. A glass-half-full, over-sharer who is incredibly inappropriate and terrible at reading a room, Barbara cares deeply and tries very hard but misses the mark.

Meadows and Dyer play driving examiners. Klein executive produces with Kapital’s Aaron Kaplan, Trill TV’s Wendi Trilling and Anonymous Content’s Robyn Meisinger.

Selected for Comedy Central’s “Up Next” Showcase, Kearney become Saturday Night Live‘s first non-binary cast member. Last month, Kearney announced their departure from the sketch comedy program after two seasons. Their credits also include Prime Video’s A League Of Their Own, Disney+’s The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers and Paramount+’s Good Burger 2.

Aussie O’Donnell’s extensive resume includes directing stints on such series as CBS Studios’ Ghosts, No Activity, which he also co-created, and The Moodys, as well as Hacks, The Good Place, Grace and Frankie and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
