The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Sokoto State University branch, has announced the suspension of its indefinite strike, allowing academic activities to resume immediately.
The decision was reached following a congress held on Thursday, at Lecture Hall 2, Faculty of Arts.
The meeting was convened to review the resolutions of a conciliation meeting between the Sokoto State Government and the ASUU leadership, which took place on March 4, 2025.
After deliberations on the government’s offer, ASUU members at SSU voted in favour of suspending the strike.
Subsequently, the National Executive Council of ASUU granted approval for suspension.
In an official statement, the ASUU SSU Chairperson, Dr. Saidu Abubakar, and Secretary, Hassan Aliyu, confirmed that “all members are directed to resume work immediately.”
The indefinite strike was initially declared on February 26, 2025, due to unresolved issues with the state government.
While the details of the agreement remain undisclosed, the suspension signals progress in addressing the union’s demands.
Students and staff at SSU can now expect normal academic activities to resume after the disruption caused by the industrial action.
