Solana-based decentralized platform for launching meme coin, Pump.fun, is facing community backlash after users alleged that its live stream feature is broadcasting harmful and violent acts. Over the past few months, Pump.fun has gained popularity as a popular Solana-based platform for launching meme coins.

It allows users to promote their tokens by using community features such as livestreams. However, following the recent acts of harmful and violent content, the community members have demanded stricter moderation along with asking to shut down the livestream feature.

Earlier on Monday, November 25, Pudgy Penguins safety project manager Beau flagged a user during a Pump.fun livestream who was threatening to commit suicide if their coin did not reach a specific market capitalization.

As a result, Beau urged Pump.fun to look into this matter, disable the live stream, and help the individual concerned. The Pudgy Penguin also asked Pump.fun to shut down its livestream completely, saying that it’s going “out of control”.

Hey @pumpdotfun there is currently someone using your livestreams to threaten to hang themselves if the coin does not reach a set marketcap.

Absolutely heinous and It needs to come down + see if you can get them help.

Shut down the livestream feature. This is out of control.

Other troubling reports include users allegedly making violent threats. One community member flagged an individual who reportedly shot a gun out of a window whenever their coin’s value increased.

Additionally, X users reported a child threatening to harm family members if a token did not reach a specific price, and another flagged someone who claimed they would carry out a school shooting if their memecoin didn’t surge.

Other community members also dubbed the Pump.fun livestream feature a “pipeline of felonies”. One X user demanded that the Solana-based meme coin launchpad should disable the feature to deactivate the feature until robust moderation tools are put in place.  “Turning on a camera to showcase your own depravity to the world isn’t noble or novel,” they said.

Pump.fun Team Takes Corrective Measures

In response to the criticism, Alon, the pseudonymous leader of Pump.fun, acknowledged the community’s concerns but defended the platform’s moderation practices. He stated that the Pump.fun team actively moderates images, videos, livestreams, and comments on the website to ensure a safe environment.

with the live streaming meta on in full force there have been many people that came forward with some very legitimate concerns regarding what content that is allowed on the platform

let me make it abundantly clear: we actively moderate illicit content on the site. that includes…

The Pump.fun leader added:

“We have a large team of moderators working around the clock and an internal team of engineers that’s working on helping us deal with increased scale of coins, streams, and comments.”

Alon emphasized that moderation has been a priority for Pump.fun since its launch, assuring users that the team is actively working to address illicit content. Despite these claims, community members have urged the platform to increase transparency and implement immediate measures to prevent harmful broadcasts.
