Lionel Messi is at the heart of a new controversy, after letting his anger explode during the match between Inter Miami and Charlotte this weekend.
Inter Miami scored a third consecutive draw in MLS this Sunday, against Charlotte (1-1). Lionel Messi, author of the equalizer in the 67th minute, allowed his team to leave with a point, after Pole Karol Swiderski opened the scoring ten minutes earlier.
Although Tata Martino’s men maintain a comfortable lead in the Eastern Conference standings, ahead of their first pursuer, the Columbus Crew, the eight-time Ballon d’Or and star of the Florida club was noted for a gesture of humor during the meeting.
Messi attacks a referee
In images broadcast by Apple TV and widely shared on social networks, Messi was seen in an altercation with the referee, Mr. Ramy Touchan. TyC Sports reports that the Argentine insulted him in these terms: “You are a bad man, you are a bad man. You son of a bitch, you are a bad man”before receiving a yellow card.
The former PSG player would have lost his calm following a penalty not called, after having suffered a foul at the end of the match. It remains to be seen whether the MLS disciplinary committee will decide to sanction the 2022 world champion more severely.
