Two National Women’s Soccer League fan favorites are on the move.
Multiple sources familiar with the situation have confirmed to The Equalizer that the Houston Dash has traded Nichelle Prince to the Kansas City Current in exchange for Cece Kizer and a 2024 international roster spot. It is understood that the trade materialized last Friday night, during the NWSL Draft.
Neither club has provided comment at this time, with an announcement from the league expected soon. Both players’ contracts are set to expire at the end of the 2024 season.
Need to know: Prince and Kizer
Prince, a Canadian international and Olympic gold medalist in 2021, is one of Houston’s longest-serving players and has yet to play for another club since being drafted out of Ohio State in 2017. The tricky winger has made 88 appearances and scored 12 goals for the Dash in the NWSL regular season, and was a vital part of the 2020 Challenge Cup winning team.
The Ontario native missed almost the entire 2023 season due to a ruptured Achilles that she suffered on international duty in November 2022. However, in a race against time, Prince was able to successfully rehab in time to be included in Canada’s squad for the 2023 World Cup. She made seven appearances (393 minutes) for the Dash at the back end of the year.
