South American football expert Tim Vickery has likened Paris Germain-Germain star Manuel Ugarte to former Liverpool and Argentina midfielder Javier Mascherano.
Manchester United are in the market for a new midfield addition, but they’ve threatened to walk away from a deal for Ugarte due to PSG’s price demands.
However, Ugarte is understood to still be on United’s wish list. It’s just a matter of PSG realising that they’ve only priced the Uruguayan out of a summer move.
Vickery, who is one of the best when it comes to knowledge on South American football, has told Sky Sports that Ugarte reminds him of a young Mascherano.
When asked about United target Ugarte, Vickery said: “He reminds me a lot of a young Javier Mascherano. I don’t think he’s quite as good but he’s that type of player. I like him very much and I like him for United very much.”
For many people, Vickery’s blessing will be enough to convince people that Ugarte would be a good signing for United.
That said, don’t expect United to overpay for the former Sporting Lisbon ace. The Reds will lose elsewhere if PSG don’t wise up.
