The European Championships finish for most this weekend, but for others the season is far from over with the play-offs for promotion to the next tier. To return to the Premier League, Leeds United had dismissed Norwich in the semi-final and found Southampton, defeaters of West Brom, to join Ipswich Town and Leicester City in the Premier League. In a contested final, the Saints were the most dangerous from the start and Armstrong, with a good right-footed strike, beat Meslier for the opener (1-0, 23rd).

In difficulty, the Peacocks avoided the worst thanks to a rescue from Meslier (45th), after the Summerville sensation was close to equalizing (41st). In the second half, Leeds United tried until the end and saw James find the crossbar (84th), but it was not enough. After spending a season in the Championship, Southampton returned to the Premier League to the detriment of Leeds United, who will have to play at the lower level next season.
