A first season of adaptation, then the explosion? When Paris Saint-Germain signed Marco Asensio in the summer of 2023, many were convinced that the Ile-de-France team had just signed one of the big moves of the transfer window. But for the moment, the Parisian adventure of the man who was once considered the biggest hope of Spanish football is complicated to say the least. After a first season of adaptation, the player trained in Mallorca was expected to turn the corner during this 2024/2025 financial year, which had also started rather well for him.
His start to the season had actually been quite good, with a goal and two assists over the first four days, all starting as a starter. But as the season progressed, the Asensio effect quickly dissipated and he lost importance, just as his performances were less interesting. In December, he played only 11 minutes, starting in Ligue 1 against Auxerre while PSG played five matches during the last month of the year.
Asensio must go!
A situation which is logically causing discussion in Spain. A very important time with the Spanish selection, Asensio has not played a single minute with La Roja since September 2023. And given the recent results of the Iberian nation, the quality of its breeding ground and its youth and the time of Anecdotal play by Asensio at club, everything indicates that we are not about to see him again in the red and yellow tunic. For the Spanish press, there is no doubt about what the main person concerned must do to get back on track… “One month before celebrating his 29th birthday, it is perhaps the time for Marco Asensio to seriously think about his situation in Paris”can we for example read from the side of Marcawhere he is clearly encouraged to leave.
His absence against Lens, a match for which Luis Enrique did not call him up even though he did not appear to be injured, did not go unnoticed. Daily life A.S. mentions in particular a “Asensio mystery”and explains that “its future could be written far from the French capital”. For Relevo, “something is happening with Asensio”. The newspaper Sport nevertheless specifies that Asensio is happy in Paris and that he intends to convince Luis Enrique. But for the Spanish media there is no doubt: Asensio must go…
