Will La Roja be able to play in the Euro this summer? UEFA and FIFA are threatening.

Shaken by corruption scandals under the presidency of Luis Rubiales, between 2018 and 2023, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) is subject to supervision by the Spanish government of Pedro Sanchez and its higher sports commission.

In the eyes of the European Football Federation (UEFA) and the International Football Federation (Fifa), this is an abuse of power and a case of gross interference, general secretaries Mattias Grafström (Fifa) and Theodore Theodoridis (UEFA) demanding immediate clarification of the situation from the Spanish government.

The worst is expected

According to the sports daily AS, an ultimatum was thus issued to the Higher Sports Commission, which would have until Friday to justify its intrusion into the management of the affairs of the RFEF. This under penalty of sanctions. And the aforementioned Spanish publication goes far in the worst-case scenario.

A pure and simple exclusion from the next Euro could be pronounced by UEFA against the Iberian selection. Before other sanctions if the situation persists such as the suspension of La Liga clubs in the European Cup. Fifa brandishes the same threat, which recently reframed the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) for similar reasons. From June 14, in Germany, Spain must face Italy, Croatia and Albania in the first phase of the European Nations Championship.
