Popular Nigerian singer, Darlington Achakpo, also known as Speed Darlington, has reportedly being arraigned in court and granted bail.
One of his lawyers, Deji Adeyanju, disclosed this in a post on X.com on Wednesday.
Adeyanju wrote, “Police finally arraigns Speed Darlington in court.
“Bail application moved and granted. We are trying to perfect same.”
PUNCH Online reported last week that Speed Darlington petitioned the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Intelligence Bureau in Abuja, DIG Dasuki Galadanchi, asking him to comply with a court order on his continued detention.
The singer’s counsel, Rosemary E. Hamza, from the Chambers of Deji Adeyanju & Partners, had emphasised that the court order issued by Justice M.S. Liman on December 23, 2024, directed the police to charge Speed Darlington within 48 hours or release him unconditionally.
Speed Darlington was initially arrested in October 2024 over allegations of defamation and cyberstalking Burna Boy.
The singer was arrested in Lagos and transferred to Abuja, where he was detained by the IGP’s Intelligence Response Team in the Guzape area of Abuja.
After being released from police custody, he was re-arrested in November while performing at a show in Owerri, Imo State, just days after returning to the country.
