Accused of stinginess by the Puy club, Stade Rennais was keen to respond to these attacks.

The Coupe de France quarter-final between Le Puy and Stade Rennais (1-3) continues well beyond the final whistle. After the match, the Auvergne club, through its financial director, criticized its Breton counterpart for having recovered 55,000 euros from ticketing revenue, while it is customary for professional clubs to leave in the Coupe de France the entire recipe for amateurs.

Faced with these attacks, Stade Rennais responded with a rather scathing press release. “It is with amazement and total incomprehension that Stade Rennais FC learned of the statements members of the management of Puy Foot 43, indicates the Breton club.Supporting amateur football, the SRFC, as it had already done in the previous round with FC Sochaux (which warmly thanked it), see you again donated his share of the proceeds from the French Cup match to Puy Foot 43, keeping only a sum strictly covering the expenses of his trip to St-Etienne. »

“This friendly gesture seemed to us to be welcomed, continues the Breton club. But this is not the case. This seems all the more regrettable to us as the Auvergne leaders did not consider it appropriate to welcome their Rennes counterparts as tradition dictates. Likewise, the SRFC regrets the damage to its supporters’ vehicles noted at the outcome of the match. »

Stade Rennais therefore also has criticisms to make of its opponent. And Ouest-France adds that communication between the two clubs was difficult before the meeting, with the hypothesis of a match played at Roazhon Park which was ultimately not accepted.
