Music artiste, Ayorinde Mafoluku Ayodele, popularly known as Ayo Maff has shared that despite his rise to fame he refuses to settle. In an exclusive interview with Sunday Scoop, the Afrobeat sensation believes complacency has no place in his journey, as he is focused on pushing boundaries.
“I’d say God has been good, God has been faithful. It hasn’t been easy actually but then nothing in this life is. I’ve been working and learning on the job because there has been a lot to learn, this music thing is more than what people see and know, but so far so good, we thank God for growth”, the singer said.
“One really can’t be comfortable in this industry, getting comfortable makes one slack and relax when you need to continually strive and work. I have found a good fan base that loves and supports me, and that gives me happiness and the assurance that I’m on the right path or that I’m doing something right. But I won’t say that makes me comfortable so to say, it inspires me to do more and gives me a reason to keep working. For someone ambitious and daring, you don’t get comfortable; you appreciate the growth you experience and immediately aspire to do more”, he added.
Speaking on the challenges he has faced so far, he said, “I can’t start making a list now but I’d just round it up under these headings; discernment and resource management. The ability to reach a particular point or level of your journey and be able to know what to do, who you go to, who to work with, what to get, what to do with what you have, and things like that. Because so many things come at you when you’re on this journey, many of them disguised as other things. And that’s where having the right persons on your side comes in very handy. Once you have good people who have your best interest at heart on your side, it’s easier to navigate these dilemmas and experience comes in too to help you with decision-making.”
Rather than feeling pressured to stay relevant, Maff disclosed that he is driven by ambition. “I won’t say pressure, I’d just say ambition. I just got here, before I got here I had a dream of what I hope to be. I could never express my level of joy and appreciation for the growth I’ve experienced in my career but I will be honest with you and tell you that my ambitions are way bigger than where I am now. So it’s not necessarily ‘pressure to stay relevant,’ it’s my quest to reach heights and places I see myself in my head. I have a song I want to do with Justin Bieber, I have a song I want Swae Lee on, and I want to be on a BTS record. If I could get a SZA verse for one of these songs, it’d be great”, he stated.
As his fast-growing fan base anticipates what’s next, Ayo Maff, who is set to drop his debut album said, “I have an album dropping soon. We are concluding a few things on it to make it as special as I want it. It is my debut album and it means a lot to me that it comes out as great as I want it to be. My last EP was a big deal for me and once it dropped and I saw the reception to it, this album became the next goal and it’s almost done now, so I’m excited about it, really looking forward to sharing it with my people.”
Beyond the beats and rhythms, the album is deeply personal, drawing from his experiences and background. “Just like my EP, this album is for my fans, for my people. My fans have been the driving force of my career, and my roots too because I’m a street boy; I rep the hood, I rep the street, it is where I’m from and where I was raised. I want to be a testimony to the fact that it doesn’t matter where you’re from, with God on your side, a strong will, ambition, and hard work, you can attain great heights—that’s almost always my inspiration. And this album has a lot of soul to it, it has a lot of beautiful symphonies, sweet melodies, exciting stories as usual being the storyteller that I am, and lots of fireworks. Let’s just leave it at that for now.”
