Sad news for fans of The Serpent Queen. It was just announced on Wednesday evening (October 9) that the Starz drama series has been canceled after only two seasons on the network, according to Deadline. However, a spinoff is also in development with Minnie Driver‘s Queen Elizabeth I, who joined the series in season two. Keep reading to find out more… The Serpent Queen starred Samantha Morton as the titular character, telling “the story of Catherine de Medici (Morton) who, against all odds, became one of the most powerful and longest-serving rulers in French history.” It was based on the book “Catherine de Medici: Renaissance Queen of France” by Leonie Frieda. The same creative team on The Serpent Queen, including writer/executive producer Justin Haythe and EP Erwin Stoff, is said to be working on the spinoff.
