Steve Albini, a singer and guitarist best known for producing some of the most groundbreaking and influential albums of the alt-rock genre, died of a heart attack at his recording studio Electrical Audio. He was 61.
Albini’s death was first confirmed and reported by Pitchfork.
A frontman for bands Big Black, Rapeman and Shellac, Albini produced seminal albums by Nirvana, Pixies, P.J. Harvey and post-Led Zeppelin Jimmy Page and Robert Plant.
