“Stone Cold” Steve Austin is no stranger to dealing with injuries throughout his career. He recently revealed that he dealt with a knee issue that continues to linger.
Speaking during an appearance on The BobbyCast, Austin reflected on an injury he suffered during his time at North Texas State University, where he played football. Austin said he tore his ACL and it wasn’t repaired. That led to a litany of issues that will eventually require a new knee.
“That was my junior year, my first year at North Texas State University,” said Austin (via Fightful). “Running down on kickoff coverage, and hit my guy I was supposed to block, and man, I went down, I’d never felt anything like what I felt in my left knee, and I tore my ACL, but it was a tear where you tear it in the middle, and the edges are kind of frayed. They can either repair it or not repair it. Based on the strength of my quads and my hamstrings, they didn’t repair that knee, so anyway, subsequently that’s what led to all my knee issues down the road. I’ve had ACL, PCL put there from cadaver ligaments several years ago. I need a new left knee here pretty quick.”
Would Steve Austin wrestle again?
Austin’s last on-air appearance for WWE was at WrestleMania 38, where he defeated Kevin Owens. Many fans continue to speculate that Austin could make an appearance at WrestleMania 41. The event takes place in Las Vegas, and he lives in Nevada. Austin spoke with Fox News Digital and said he’s open to a potential appearance at WrestleMania 41 — if it makes sense.
“I said something about it this year just because it’s 400 miles down the road,” Steve Austin said. “I do spend several trips a year in Las Vegas. So, to think that [WrestleMania] is 400 miles away [from my home], that I’m going to be there, make a couple of appearances, I’ll be promoting my beer. If WWE reached out and said, ‘Hey, maybe you want to do something,’ I’d be happy to do it as long as it makes sense.”
“But to get in there, put trunks on, and to try and be the guy that I once was … I did that, two years ago and tried to do something but I never had a ring to practice in,” he added. [Hulk Hogan] hit it right on the head where he goes, ‘Well, he’s not calloused up. His body isn’t going to be ready for what he feels.’ Undertaker hit it right on the head when he said his timing was not going to be there. Which it wasn’t, because I didn’t have any timing. Triple H hit it right on the head where he goes you never go out there, you never know what you’re going to go out there with because you don’t know what you have. You haven’t been in a ring in 20 years. And I didn’t know what I had.”
Austin said WWE has so much going on, that they might not even need him on the card. However, if WWE asked and the pitch made sense, he’d be there.
