Steve Bruce was loving it.
Watching on as Manchester United won 3-2 at Old Trafford against Newcastle United.
Steve Bruce saying it was ‘great’ to see the younger Man U players do so well and score goals against Newcastle United.
For fans who were around at the time, we all recall in October 1996 how Steve Bruce was almost in tears in the Sky Sports studio as Keegan’s Newcastle United ripped apart Man U. Bruce supposedly in the studio as someone with split loyalties.
Just as was the case then though, 28 years later we all know absolutely who Steve Bruce wanted to win last night…
Steve Bruce talking to Premier League productions – 15 May 2024:
“It was a huge improvement from what we saw two weeks ago when Manchester United were so disappointing.
“They have shown a bit of resilience and got on with it.
“The youngsters, who have had a really breakthrough season, have done fantastically well.
“Scored a couple of goals between them. They are the biggest plus without a question.
“Big plus is the introduction of Mainoo, who looks like a really exciting talent.
“We haven’t seen much of Amad but we have seen another flash tonight.
“Of course, Garnacho is only a young player and let’s not forget Hojlund, he is only 21 and so I would class him in that category too.
“All in all, for the young ones, it’s a progressive season.
“We are not privy to what has been going on behind the scenes [as to why Amad Diallo has only made his first ever Premier League start this month], in that sort of area, Manchester United have got a few [options]. When you think of [Marcus]Rashford – this, that and the other. He [Amad Diallo] has had to be patient to play.
“I know he has a wonderful season up at Sunderland.
“Everybody was raving about him and that he has an enormous talent.
We have seen glimpses of it tonight, which has been great to watch.”
