Steve “Mongo” McMichael is recovering.

The former WCW star, who was recently announced as a Pro Football Hall of Fame Inductee, has been battling health problems in recent years.

Per ESPN, McMichael is improving after he contracted a staph infection at a suburban hospital. In a statement, his wife, Misty McMichael, noted that his family hopes he can return home early this week, possibly as soon as Tuesday.

McMichael, 66, has been battling ALS for over three years, and he has been in the hospital due to a urinary tract infection, since Thursday. Over the weekend, his family announced that he had developed MRSA, and he was undergoing a blood transfusion.

In the statement, Misty said Steve was “one tough guy”, and his DNA was different. She also thanked everyone to keep their prayers coming.

In addition to his remarkably successful football career, Steve McMichael had a prominent run in WCW. There, he won the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship, and he was a member of the Four Horsemen.

WrestleZone wishes Steve McMichael well in his recovery, and we will provide more information as it becomes available.
