Michelle Satter, Sundance Institute’s Founding, Senior Director, Artist Programs, and her husband, writer-producer David Latt, are among the thousands who have lost homes due to the wildfires ravaging Los Angeles.
Satter confirmed the news in sharing the Instagram post from her son, Franklin Latt, who serves as co-head of CAA’s motion picture talent department. “Our family home was lost to the fire and hometown completely devastated. Thankfully we’re safe,” wrote Franklin. “So many have lost everything and need support. Let’s all lead with love.”
In a caption of her own, Satter wrote, “Our heart goes out to everyone who’s experiencing loss during this devastating time in our city. Sending love and support and hoping we can all find a way forward.”
This is just the latest tragedy weathered in recent years by Satter and Latt, who in November 2023 lost their son Michael Latt, founder of entertainment marketing firm Lead With Love, in a shooting at his Miracle Mile home. News of their loss comes as Satter prepares for the January 23 launch of the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, where she’ll be honored at an annual gala fundraiser for her decades-long commitment to nurturing artists and cultivating independent film through the Sundance Labs.
Multiple wildfires have been burning out of control across Los Angeles since Tuesday, rapidly expanding due to strong Santa Ana winds and dry conditions. First to ignite was a fire in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood, which is now understood to be the most destructive in the city’s history, after destroying thousands of structures. Additional fires currently active include the Kenneth Fire in West Hills, the Hurst Fire in Sylmar, the Eaton Fire in the Pasadena area, the Archer Fire in Granada Hills, among others.
