Donald Trump will be swooping into Super Bowl LIX on Sunday as the first sitting president to ever attend the NFL’s big game in person and he predicts a good time will be had by all.
“Two great Quarterbacks in this game,” the former owner of the USFL’s New Jersey Generals said online Friday morning of Patrick Mahomes of two-time returning champs the Kansas City Chiefs and the 2018 winners the Philadelphia Eagles’ Jalen Hurts before their face-off in New Orleans on February 9. “Also, an unbelievable running back, and the absolute best tight end in football (Ever!). Incredible coaching.”
“ANYWAY, IT WILL BE A GREAT GAME!!!” Trump went on to say before taking his daily swipe at his predecessor Joe Biden. “I’ll be doing the interview, before the game, at 3:00 P.M. There hasn’t been one in four years (Gee, I wonder why?).”
With Fox broadcasting the Super Bowl this year, the 78-year-old Trump will be in very friendly territory with Fox News’ Bret Baier for the semi-traditional POTUS sit-down with the host network. This year interview will be pre-recorded this weekend at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, FL before POTUS jets over to NOLA for Sunday’s game.
The 82-year-old Biden skipped doing Super Bowl interviews the past two years. Trump rescinded a White House invite to the Eagles after their 2018 victory when the majority of the team made it clear they were going to boycott the gathering.
Fox’s coverage of Sunday’s Super Bowl between the Chiefs and the Eagles, with its pregame show starting at 10 a.m. PT/1 p.m. ET from New Orleans. Coverage of the game begins at 3:30 p.m. PT/6:30 p.m. ET. Trump is set to land in a heavily secured NOLA at around 4 p.m. ET and head quickly to the Superdome to watch the game from a box. No word on if POTUS will take to the field on Sunday for the coin toss or who will be in his entourage. However, expect the likes of DODGE dean Elon Musk, family members and maybe even Vice President JD Vance – both of whom were with then President-elect Trump at the Army vs Navy game back in December.
Trump may be blatantly trying to grab some of the spotlight in the most watched event on American TV, but he won’t be the only marquee name off the field. Along with likely dozens of celebs, some of who are in the high profile ads on the game, and half time headliner Kendrick Lamar, Taylor Swift will be in a box at the Superdome supporting Chiefs tight end and longtime boyfriend Travis Kelce.
Long time Eagles fans and Philly native, Dr. Jill Biden is expected to be in the stadium tooFor a boatload of obvious reasons, there is no love lost between the former First Lady and Trump, who continues to blame all of America and many of the world’s ills on her husband, the 46th POTUS – – who will not be at the game on Sunday.
One of the few big-name organizations and companies to actively resist Trump’s anti-DEI rhetoric and regulations, the NFL has also warmly welcomed the president to this year’s Super Bowl. “We’ve been working with, obviously, all of his people, as well as security and making sure that we get him in and out safely and on his schedule,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said this week not long after the league said there would be no “End Racism” message at edge of the field this year. “We’re looking forward to having him, and I know he’s a big football fan, so I know he’s looking forward to being here,” Goodell, who has been commissioner since 2006, added.
Though Swift was a strong Kamala Harris supporter during last year’s election and attack online by Trump, the Chiefs’ Kelce was effusive over the president coming to Sunday’s Super Bowl. “That’s awesome. It’s a great honor,” the player said at a February 5 press conference. “I think, you know, no matter who the president is, I know I’m excited because it’s the biggest game of my life, you know, and having the president there, you know, it’s the best country in the world. So, that’d be pretty cool.”
The Eagles’ Hurts was much more circumspect.
When asked this week if Trump being among the fans in the stadium added to the pressure for him, the QB replied with a small smile: “No, ma’am.” It should be noted that Hurts didn’t join the Eagles until 2002 – over two years after the team and Trump snubbed each other.
Of course, Trump being Trump, the 45th and 47th President could contain himself from taking at least one hit at someone or something Super Bowl related.
“If they would only get rid of that really weird looking new Kickoff ‘deal,’ which actually makes football more dangerous, they would be doing everybody, especially the fans, a big favor,” POTUS said online Friday. Aiming to cut down on injures, the NFL this season moved kickoffs to the 35-line.
The Dynamic kickoff hasn’t exactly been a hit with fans.
A Super Bowl LVII re-match in all but name, the Chiefs are the odds favorite to win this year’s game — though the Eagles may disagree.
What everyone agree on is that Homeland Security designates the Super Bowl each year as a SEAR 1 event, the agency’s top security level designation. Also, the already well secured game and the surrounding area is under even more of a lockdown due to the terror attack in New Orleans on New Year’s Day that saw 15 people dead when a truck drove straight into a celebrating crowd. Nearly 60 others were injured.
