Bukayo Saka gave the Gunners the lead before Gabriel Martinelli capitalised on a mishap involving Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker.

Leandro Trossard then sealed the victory right at the death, as Arteta broke out into joyful celebrations at full-time.

Arsenal have now narrowed the gap on league leaders Liverpool to just two points, though third-place Manchester City do boast two games in hand.

The win has kept the club's hopes of a Premier League title certainly alive, and should they land it, Arteta would break a record set by Mourinho.

Arteta would be the youngest boss ever to win the Premier League title, beating the Portuguese tactician.

Mourinho was 42 years and 94 days old when he got his hands on the ultimate prize with Chelsea, their first ever crown, at the end of the 2004–05 season.

And should the current Gunners boss win it at the end of the campaign, he would be 42 years and 65 days old.

Arsenal take on relegation-threatened Everton at the Emirates on the last day of the season.

And you should certainly not back against the Gunners going all the way between now and then.

“We are there, that’s for sure,” Arteta said when asked if Arsenal are in the title race.

“We want to continue to be there. We’ve been really consistent all season, if not you aren’t where we are today.

"We take it game by game and the availability of the squad is going to be crucial, we have learned that from last season. Let’s try to make that happen.”
